Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Rapids Airport - South by IHG

Our room was clean and spacious. Staff was friendly and kind. Pool and gym were great, and breakfast was adequate - what you should expect for a free hotel breakfast.

Very clean hotel. Service seems good but haven’t interacted much with the staff. Room was perfect but the gym could use some work. Breakfast gets the job done. Great cinnamon rolls and pancake machine. Coffee isn’t very good but the machine is cool.

Let me give you the reason I rated this place so highly. Is it in the best location, probably not BUT the staff, one staff member in particular impressed the heck out of us. It was Valentine’s Day in the lobby was backed up literally 20 people deep and had been from what we had heard for about three hours and here was one individual at the desk who had been working at the entire time herself and doing so with the patients of a saint. No other staff was available and person after person she processed booking after booking with a smile on her face. Kudos to Missy. You did a great job!!!

Clean and well maintained. I was disappointed that none of the staff spoke. Typically, at most IHG properties they will at least say, "Good morning." I passed at least 5 staff members that were mute or looked the other way. Also, I could hear my neighbors through the bathroom vent. They should consider turning the air vent back on or up!

I switched from the Sheridan to here and the rooms are way better. They are in better shape, a little bigger and are more clean. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the shower is good. I also have a WHOLE DESK in my room, which has been so helpful! The continental breakfast is very good. I've been happily eating it all week. Overall, the building is good. The elevators, doors, hallways are all in great shape. The cleaning staff didn't clean in my room today, which was a little annoying, but they did get to it a few days ago. The staff have all been very nice. Above average. The location is less than ideal though. It's about 15 minutes from anything but gas stations and a Culver's. Also, the parking lot is pretty rough. Nice safe remote area though. The airport isn't too loud.

We were incredibly happy with our stay at this hotel. Traveled there for a baseball tournament and this was one of the options with a group rate with our team. We are a family of 6 and they have the ever so sought after room with 2 queen + pullout that sleeps 2 ... so to be able to just get 1 affordable room vs. 2 is huge for us! The rooms were clean and modern, free breakfast is always wonderful with the kids (and a huge money saver for a big family!!) and it had lovely options. Pool and pool area were clean, nice seating space outside and the staff was very quick to respond to any requests we had. It's not The Ritz, but for a place to stay that is clean and nice - it gets the job done and we all were very happy with it! Late checkout was great for us as well! Thanks for a great stay, if in the area again, we'll be back!

The beds were fine. The lavatory water barely came out and barely drained. The tub creaked like an old man. It was steel. I'm assuming that when they installed it they didn't set it on the floor properly. No coffee machine in room. Employees were great. The breakfast was typical. Good selection but the eggs were forgettable. Love the pancake machine though. Also the coffee machine. They also allowed us to leave a little later because of the weather. Would I come back? Probably.

I stayed at another TownePlace Suites near the airport, right across from a Holiday Inn Airport North. That Holiday Inn was better. This Holiday Inn (2-star) is actually better than the nearby TownePlace (3-star). The price is lower, yet the hotel is cleaner, and the room I stayed in was much larger than the one I had at TownePlace. There was no difference in the breakfast between this 2-star hotel and the nearby 3-star hotel. One minor issue was that the swimming pool's water temperature was a little cold. I saw some guests in swimsuits step in, only to get out shortly after dipping their feet in the water. Unlike at TownePlace, where an employee would always ask me to leave after the closing time, this hotel was more relaxed. I was able to swim after the closing time. Since the water was slightly cold, most of the time I was the only one in the pool, which made it feel like I had a large private pool all to myself. This hotel did not pay me to write this review. In my opinion, despite the lower price, it offers a better overall experience than TownePlace Suites.
